As scholars and academics, we are in constant pursuit of knowledge. This pursuit of knowledge builds bridges between us and other scholars from around the world who, through academia, share a commitment to deepening our collective understanding of the world. In this endeavour, we have a moral and ethical responsibility to speak out against scholasticide, wherever it is present. We understand that education is an essential human right.
An assault on education anywhere hurts our humanity everywhere.
For the past 75+ years, Palestine’s fundamental right to education has been under attack by the Israeli regime. This ongoing assault is not just an aggression on individuals but on the very foundations of learning and knowledge. It is our duty to stand against this injustice and to use our privilege to work towards real and meaningful change.
We must raise awareness about the scholasticide in Gaza and throughout historic Palestine. We must work to defend educational and research institutions in Palestine, as well as the students, staff, and faculty who study and work there. Our collective voice and actions will make a difference in advocating for justice, peace, and the universal right to education.
As scholars, we condemn the Israeli government’s and military’s deliberate and documented targeting of schools, universities, and hospitals, as well as the imprisonment, torture, wounding, and murder of professors, students, staff, and educators.
We uphold the fundamental right to education and recognize the resilience and strength of the Palestinian academic sector, which has persevered in the face of Israeli military assaults for the past 75 years. There are no universities left in Gaza and no students will be getting an education for the second year in a row. This tragedy should serve as a call to action for scholars around the world.
This exhibition pays tribute to some of these Palestinian scholars who were tragically murdered during the ongoing Israeli military assault on Gaza. We aim to highlight their contributions to education, research, and the broader community.
Please remember that the individuals featured in this exhibit are not mere statistics. They are parents, siblings, relatives, and friends—each with a unique story that was tragically cut short by the Israeli war on Palestine.
We ask that you treat the individuals in the exhibition as if they were your family, your friends, your professors, or your students.
We invite you to enter this exhibition with empathy and with respect.
